April 25, 2024 – Hawaii News Now reports that the Damien Memorial School debate team qualified for the International Public Policy Forum (IPPF) debate contest finals, winning an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City. The Honolulu-based team will compete for a $10,000 grand prize.
Four of the team's students will make the trip to New York, where they will debate whether “governments should provide universal basic income” against seven other national finalists.
To qualify to compete in the finals, Damien Memorial won a series of written debates against other schools.
