March 1, 2024 — The Dallas Express reports on two North Texas high school teams competing in the 23rd annual International Public Policy Forum – a high school debate contest sponsored by the Brewer Foundation and New York University.
Dallas Urban Debate Alliance Executive Director Cindi Timmons told the paper her students “thrive on the ‘back and forth’ of the debate process and figuring out ways to make their ideas more persuasive.”
“Their participation equips them with a set of transformative and portable skills they can use in any profession they choose,” Timmons told the paper. “The advocacy skills they learn will help them become leaders in their communities. We have found that participation in high school debate translates into lifelong civic engagement and the ability to speak out on behalf of self and others.”
