UNHCR Reports on IPPF Team's Donation

The UNHCR (the UN Refugee Agency) this week published an article about the 2016-17 IPPF team from duPont Manual High School in Louisville, Kentucky, and its decision to donate its IPPF winnings to support the refugee cause.

The article, "With Heads and Hearts, Five Kentucky Teens Rally for Refugees," discusses the students involvement in the IPPF and the fact that all five members of the team are first-generation Americans "with deep personal connections to global migration."

“We wish we could contribute more, and, at the same time, we deeply wish the need were less,” the team wrote in a letter to UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.

In a response letter to the teens, Grandi praised their “spirit and goodwill." He also commended the Brewer Foundation and New York University for “fostering such a timely debate” and allowing students to “explore the refugee issue and other important topics with rigor and reflection.”
