Council on Foreign Relations President To Judge IPPF Finals

The IPPF is pleased to announce that Council on Foreign Relations ("CFR") President Richard N. Haass will serve as a judge at the IPPF Finals on April 27, 2019, in New York City.

 

Dr. Haass is in his sixteenth year as president of the CFR. He has an impressive biography. From 2001 to 2003, he served as Director of Policy Planning for the U.S. Department of State, where he was a principal advisor to Secretary of State Colin Powell. Confirmed by the

 

U.S. Senate to hold the rank of ambassador, Dr. Haass also served as U.S. coordinator for policy toward the future of Afghanistan and U.S. envoy to the Northern Ireland peace process. 

From 1989 to 1993, Dr. Haass was special assistant to President George H.W. Bush and senior director for Near East and South Asian affairs on the staff of t
he National Security Council.

 

A recipient of the Presidential Citizens Medal, the State Department's Distinguished Honor Award, and the Tipperary International Peace Award, he is also the author or editor of 12 books on foreign policy and international relations.

 

Of particular interest to our IPPF participants, Dr. Haass wrote the 2017 book, A World in Disarray: American Foreign Policy and the Crisis of the Old Order. Earlier this year, he wrote an article for The Atlantic, “America and the Great Abdication."
